spacer.gif   The Ultimate Graphics Cards Round-up: Spring 2010

  Video News
"When the current state of the graphics card market is compared to the situation of four or five years ago, one might think that it’s much simpler to buy a graphics card nowadays. Indeed, the numerous LE and SE models are long gone and there is no covert memory bus halving, when users ended up with performance far inferior to those in reviews. You may stumble upon a few models containing DDR2 memory, instead of the referent models’ GDDR3, but these are usually end-of-life products at the rock bottom of the current product gamma, so buyers actually do end up with the performance they paid for these days. Still, the unequal speed of new chip development in the two competitor companies, followed by strong economic impacts last year and a no-holds-barred battle for market dominance, caused the existence of a higher-than-needed number of similarly priced models present on the market at the moment, so customers may be in doubt as to which card will give them the best performance in a given price range. That’s why we decided to make a test of all models from the current generation available at the market."

"The card uses ATI's newest 40nm chip from TSMC, codenamed Cedar. The GPU is a mere 59mm2, enabling the Radeon 5450 to become the first DirectX 11 video card to sell for under $50. It will use DDR3 or DDR2, depending on the Add-In Board partner who sells the card. 512MB versions will sell for around $50, while 1GB versions will sell for around $60."

spacer.gif   ATI Radeon 4890 and NVIDIA GTX 275 Reviews

  Video News
"For some time now ATI has been planning a refresh of their 4870 and today that product reaches us in the form of the Radeon 4890. The 4890 is now ATI’s fastest single GPU solution and many would think that Nvidia need a refresh of their top end card, the GTX 285, to compete with ATI. This is not the case though as Nvidia feel they have a great value competitor for the 4890 with their new GTX 275."
Review at DriverHeaven.net
"Today ATI and NVIDIA are introducing new sub-$250 cards vying for your attention. In one corner lies ATI's Radeon 4890. Sporting a new RV790 GPU, the card has been enhanced to run at higher clocks and lower temps. In other other corner is NVIDIA's GTX 275. Thanks to blazing clocks, it performs similarly to NVIDIA's GTX 280. Which card comes out on top in the end? Find out inside!"

"Whilst this may seem like an odd choice for a direct head to head, today's review will focus on the overall value of each card, taking into account cost per frame, bundle and various other factors. This could seem fairly boring to a no budget gaming enthusiast, but with the financial climate the way it is, people need to consider their purse/wallet more than ever in their buying decisions."
